WRHSRC Affiliations

The WRHSRC received its base financial support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) as one of 5 regional Hazardous Substances Research Center's in the country. EPA funded the centers to encourage the development of better and safer methods for assessment and clean up of hazardous substances. The WRHSRC also received grants, contracts, and gifts from other federal agencies, states, municipalities, consultants, and industry.

WRHSRC researchers were primarily located at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon and at Stanford University in Stanford, California.

WRHSRC outreach personnel were located at Oregon State University in the Center for Water and Environmental Sustainability (CWESt). This group operated the two hazardous substances outreach programs:

• Technical Outreach Services to Communities (TOSC) -- a program providing no-cost, non-advocacy advice to communities affected by hazardous waste sites.

• Technical Assistance for Brownfields Communities (TAB) -- a program providing information to communities interested in redeveloping abandoned industrial sites.
